A new energy-based method for 3D motion estimation of incompressible PIV flows

چکیده
Estimation of motion has many applications in fluid analysis. A lot of work has been carried out using Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to design experiments which capture and measure the flow motion using 2D images. Recent technological advances allow capturing 3D PIV image sequences of moving particles. In this paper, we deal with incompressible fluid flows which are a large class of physical real flows. We propose a new three-dimensional energy-based technique which estimates the flow motion preserving the incompressibility of the flow. We add the incompressibility constraint to the energy and we solve the constrained minimisation problem using a generalised Lagrange multipliers technique. The discretization of the energy yields to a challenging discrete optimisation problem. The performance of the proposed technique is measured and illustrated using numerical simulations.

In this thesis, techniques for Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) are developed that are based on variational methods. The basic idea is not to estimate displacement vectors locally and individually, but to estimate vector fields as a whole by minimizing a suitable functional defined over the entire image domain (which may be 2D or 3D and may also include t...

3D Particle Imaging Velocimetry (3D-PIV) aim to recover the flow field in a volume of fluid, which has been seeded with tracer particles and observed from multiple camera viewpoints. The first step of 3D-PIV is to reconstruct the 3D locations of the tracer particles from synchronous views of the volume. We propose a new method for iterative particle reconstruction (IPR), in which the locations ...

The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...
